  1. How did you get started with CrossFit?

I actually started looking into boot camp classes and discovered CrossFit while researching online for places to go. I went to 4 other boxes and the 5th one I checked out was Illumine. When I entered I was met by Stephen Krofl. I must admit I was a bit intimidated at first. Seeing him and not knowing CrossFit/OLY I was wondering what I was getting myself into. He was on the platform, on a Sunday doing OLY killing it of course. We spoke for a bit and I was very much interested. I went back on a later date and spoke with Brian and I was impressed and really looked forward to On-ramp. So Here I am!

  1. Favorite and least favorite WOD and/or movement?

I enjoy doing all the WOD’s. Even pushing myself even when not 100%. I like front/back squats and dead lifts. Believe it or not I’m not a fan of bar hops.

  1. Give us a long term AND short term fitness goal:

Long term: I’d like to better myself with the snatch. I find myself questioning my ability to perform the task right each time.
Short term: I’ve recently have been pushing myself in double unders and it’s coming along well. The other is learning how to do butterfly pull-ups. I feel these 2 for the moment are the fastest to overcome for me.

  1. What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and not sure whether they should give it a try or not?

I’d never tell someone Not to try CrossFit. I’d explain how amazing it is and how its helped me and what I’ve seen other people accomplish doing CrossFit. I’d ask them to try it out and keep an open mind. Don’t be afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone and don’t listen to those who knock CrossFit. Its so far from being like your typical gym. The community and the rewards are so great!
I’d explain that they set the limits as to what they can do but yet they’ll be amazed at what the short and long term affects will do and  keep them coming back for more.

  1. What is your proudest CrossFit accomplishment thus far?

I’ve had many proud moments at Illumine. Seeing my past Wodify logs and seeing the big Gainz over the past year and a half in all areas. Even more rewarding was competing in my first Trodo this past November. I never thought I’d compete in this way. Then entering into the In-House Comp in December and doing so in the Rx group. That was a ruff one, but we all finished strong and that’s all that mattered.

  1. Tell us something about you that nobody knows, preferably an embarrassing story!

I Can’t believe I’m going to tell you guys this:
When I was 14-15 my friends and I decided to dress up as women for Halloween. Yes women in dresses. Us being not so nice teenagers we were out TP-ing houses and egging people and cars. So as the night went on we wound up egging an under cover cop car (Sorry my fellow Illumine Police Officers) not knowing so. The cop gave chase and yes we ran. As we were running across a baseball field we were now being chased by 4 cops. We all started jumping a 12 foot high fence, a friend and I got hooked on the top of the spiked fence so I decided to just jump and let the dress rip so I could get away. My friend did the same as me at the same time. Well the dresses didn’t rip! So we were both hanging off the top of the fence and we couldn’t get away. Hanging there like idiots! The cops did get to us and yes they were all laughing their asses off even while they were cutting us down. They figured that we learned our lesson and they had a great laugh, so they let us go on our way. Oh the Karma that night!

  1. If you could workout with ANYONE…who would it be and why?

I’d like to workout with these 2 guys. One is Franco Columbu and the other is Ronnie Coleman. These 2 guys are/were amazing in the world of weightlifting and bodybuilding. Though I don’t condone the use of steroids they were just amazing at what they were able to accomplish and there workout regiment was insane.

  1. If you could have dinner with 3 people, any lifetime, who and why?

These 3 guys are from totally different walks of life. 1st would be Clint Eastwood, I’ve been a fan of his since I was a little guy. It would be great to just talk with him and here about his life in and out of the movies and directing them.
2nd would be George Carlin, his comedy/views on life made you look at things from a different perspective. He was truly an amazing comedian and having a lot of laughs with him would have been awesome.
Lastly, General George S. Patton, He was truly one of the greatest Military Generals. I’d like to sit with him and hear how he strategized during the times of war. He was by far the most straight forward take no bs Generals of that time. He had some really great quotes from a military standpoint as well.So Bruce Lee and I can put money down on who would win the fight Rhonda or Royce.

  1. What do you love most about Crossfit Illumine?

I have to say all of us at Illumine. Where else besides your own family life can you feel so welcomed and pushed to achieve many highs in the world of CrossFit.

  1. What is your favorite quote and/or motto…one that you live by?

Strength: “If you are going to win any battle, you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body is never tired if the mind is not tired.” -Unknown…

Another:
“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion, respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Major General William T. Sherman
